The Michigan Aggregates Association recognized five Gerken sand and gravel operations with the 2024 MAA Safety Award. Designed to acknowledge MAA member companies that encourage and promote safe work environments, the award honors facilities having zero Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) recordable injuries the previous year.

The award-winning plants were Clinton Pit, Hillsdale Pit, Jonesville Pit, Round Lake West Pit, and Tecumseh Pit.

Todd Crane, Michigan Sand & Gravel Operations Manager, accepted the awards on behalf of The Gerken Companies at MAA’s Annual Conference in Battle Creek in February.
