LIFE AT GERKEN CPR and First Aid Training 2024 Each January, The Gerken Companies conducts CPR and First Aid training classes for employees in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requirements. In addition, Gerken offers voluntary, no-cost programs for employees wishing to learn those vital life-saving measures to protect family and friends. Safety team members Jared Clum and Ryan Sager have facilitated the programming for the past two years. They are passionate about preparing coworkers for health emergencies at work and home. In January 2024, they certified 96 individuals. “Our goal is to always have at least two certified first responders at each Gerken facility or job site,” explains Jared. “And this program underscores Gerken’s commitment to providing useful training with the potential for real impact at work and home.”

Listening to Todd Crane talk about himself, it’s easy to sense how two individuals greatly influenced his life—one by inspiring a strong work ethic and an interest in learning and the other by showing him the type of leader Todd never wants to become. As Michigan Operations Manager for Gerken Materials, Inc., Todd Crane oversees the company’s safety, quality, and production around the state. He has been working in the sand and gravel business (or, as he calls it, “playing in the dirt”) for 33 years. He was at Stansley Mineral Resources when that company merged with Gerken eleven years ago.
